Understanding Biblical Feast Days
As Shavuot (Pentecost) approaches, we have a unique opportunity to celebrate a feast day with profound significance for both our Hebrew roots and Christian heritage.
Shavuot, occurring 50 days after Passover, commemorates two world-changing events:
The Giving of Torah at Mount Sinai After the Exodus from Egypt, Israel received God's instructions at Sinai, establishing the covenant relationship between God and His people. The Torah was written on tablets of stone, providing guidance for righteous living.
The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit In Acts 2, the disciples were gathered for Shavuot when the Holy Spirit descended upon them. This fulfilled Jeremiah's prophecy that God would write His law on believers' hearts—the new covenant made possible through Messiah's sacrifice.
This beautiful connection illustrates how our messianic faith embraces the continuity of God's plan. The same God who gave the Torah later sent His Spirit to empower believers to live out those instructions through the transforming work of Yeshua.
At 21st Century Church of Christ, we'll observe Shavuot] with a special service including: • Scripture readings from Exodus 19-20 and Acts 2 • Traditional foods like dairy dishes and first fruits • Teaching on the connection between Torah and Spirit
